Who's Your Most Important Customer?

It's you! You are the most important customer you have and you don't take care of that one well enough!

Some Back Story

Unlike most, I haven't treated myself well. As my own greatest customer I should fire myself; however, I am a little too close to the source. Mind you I can make the changes I need for myself.

Everything from binge drinking on the weekends in my early twenties at the bar with my friends, to eating poorly, and to some massively negative self-talk. The self-destructive behaviour I felt was easily overcome with a little willpower, and want of staying alive longer, and some good old exercise.

The dangerous self-talk though is a whole other issue to overcome, and it is not easy. You wouldn't tell your clients the mean things you tell yourself now, would you?

What Can I do for Myself?

You're in luck there are a few things that you can do to help yourself, and others.

A simple one that I like is gratitude, daily gratitude, as it can help you have perspective, and understanding that you have something toward every day. I know since I restarted my daily gratitude I've felt better.

One of the things I've learned from a mentor, Robin Sharma, is that you need to get out into nature and rejuvenate yourself. So what can you do to get out into nature? First, you'll need to figure out what getting out to nature is for you. Do you need to go through the park for a walk? Maybe blast down some single track on your bike? Perhaps hiking around a mountain and taking in the views? Maybe it is laying on a secluded beach, or paddling around a lake? Whatever nature is to you I recommend getting out into it to clear your head a couple of times a week, or more if you can. It truly can help cleanse your soul.

One of the things I have not mastered, and try to get better at is using positive self-talk for myself. My inner voice isn't always the most caring voice I have, and its something I strive to better with. What is your self-talk like? Are you hard on yourself as well? I am going to give you permission right now to stop it. You shouldn't be hard on yourself, you are doing the best you can all the time. To help with this I have been writing in a journal to help sort my thoughts, and feelings out. I also try to find something I like about me and my accomplishments that can help me find something positive to use to improve my mood and help myself.

What also helps my mood is sleep. Do you get enough of it? Is it restful? Do you know what you are supposed to be getting? For a lot of us, it is recommended 8hrs of sleep a night; however, there are some of us who can function completely with less, and not have to get more. Myself it's usually 6-7 hours per night. Knowing your rhythm for sleep as well can be a huge deal. Are you a morning person? A night person? Or are you the odd one that is both? For falling asleep well enough having your screen's brightness turned dimmer, and having the blue light turned down. Also to help filter unhealthy light there are blue blockers and light filtering glasses you can get. Even better yet is stop using your electronics a couple of hours before bed.

One great well to help yourself out is to find yourself a mentor on something you want to be better at. If you aren't sure what you would like to be better at than a mentor is great place to start, and person to have in your life. Your mentor doesn't have to be someone you know personally, or even alive really. There are books, trainers, and online resources that can help be better with you, and to learn and guide you to the best life possible for yourself.

Basically what I am saying here is you need to treat yourself better than what you have if you've been mistreating yourself. I'm also in this boat as well. I would love to hear what you are doing to make yourself better and treat yourself like the rockstar customer you are to yourself in the comments below. Are you exercising more? Eating better? Giving better self-talk? Creative outlets?

Thank you for taking the time to read this today. I really hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it for you. As always if you enjoyed today's read please offer a like, a share, and a comment as it helps keep motivated to write more for you.
